Superintendent's Message - October 2020
Posted 10/5/20

As we enter the second full month of the school year, I want to thank our students, families and staff for all their support during this time of distance learning. Attendance remains close to one-hundred percent and despite all the challenges, learning continues throughout the district. Please contact your teacher or principal with any issues you are facing.

Under California’s tiered system related to the spread of Covid-19 within each county for the reopening of our economy, Alameda County remains in the red "substantial" tier. In addition, the County’s Department of Public Health released guidelines for the reopening of schools provided certain criteria is met. While we are excited at the prospect of returning to campus, safety remains our top priority. We will continue to monitor conditions and gather feedback from families and staff about a possible return to in-person instruction. The FUSD board of education will discuss the district’s plan at its November 12th meeting. I will update you on the situation as more information becomes available.

Thank you to all who have tuned into one of the district’s virtual superintendent meet and greets. I hope you found them useful and look forward to the remaining sessions. All five Meet and Greets are or will be available on the district’s YouTube page. If you submitted a question that wasn’t addressed, please contact your site administrator and we’ll be sure to follow up with you.

Finally, I want to give a HUGE "thank you" to everyone who has donated to the Fremont Education Foundation’s ‘$20 in 2020’ campaign to support students during distance learning. The campaign has raised nearly $100,000 and donations are still being accepted through October 16th. Please visit www.fremont-education.org for more information and to donate

Our thoughts remain with first-responders and to all those affected by the wildfires throughout California, as well as Covid-19. Please stay safe and thank you for your continued support of the Fremont Unified School District.
